September kicks off with Transfer Deadline Day and, whilst we were expecting bids to come in for Nicholas Joseph, they were not forthcoming and we keep the left back at the club. Deadline day comes and goes with no incomings or outgoings at the club. A nice, peaceful, and relaxing day. The next day, the draw for the United British Cup third round is made, and we’ll travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United.

Our first game of the month sees us travel to Everton and come home with a 2-1 win, with Alfie Devine opening the scoring in the 27th minute, James Garner equalising from the penalty spot in the 51st minute, before David Oliver scored the winner in the 70th minute.

We kick off our defence of the Champions League with a game at home to Bayer Leverkusen and send the German side home with a 5-1 defeat. Devine scored again in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot, with David Oliver netting two minutes later. Brajan Gruda pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute before David Oliver restored the two goal advantage in the 78th minute. There was still time for Carlos Dias (81) and Lewis Williams (86) to score, before we lost Van de Ven for up to four weeks to injury three minutes into stoppage time.

Newcastle United come to town next and we send them home empty handed as we beat them 4-0. Michael Kayode scores first in the 19th minute as the first half plays out relatively quietly. David Oliver scores his tenth goal in nine games in the 60th minute, while Carlos Dias scores for the second game in a row in the 76th, with substitute Dejan Kulusevski wrapping up the result in the 86th minute.

We’re back in Champions League action against AC Milan at the San Siro and come home with a 3-0 win. David Oliver created a new Champions League record for the fastest hat trick with goals in the 55th, 56th, and 59th minutes. I’ve checked the records, Mo Salah currently holds the real-life record of six minutes and twelve seconds. David Oliver bagged the three goals in three minutes and 57 seconds. Incredible!

We take on National Championship 1 (fifth tier) side Northampton in the United British League Cup, as we make eleven changes to the line up. We only manage a 1-0 win which is a little disappointing, but giving some of the fringe players minutes to perform was good and we still got the win. We’ll face National Championship 1 side Falkirk in the next round.

An international break sees us run out the end of the month without any more games. We sit top of the league with six wins in six games, and a +19 goal difference, with a five point gap over second-placed Chelsea.
